Dorothy Hagel, JD

Barrister, Solicitor & Notary Public

Dorothy Hagel, an Osgoode Hall Law School, York University graduate (Class 2004) is the founder and principal lawyer of Hagel Lawfirm. After leaving the corporate world, Dorothy realized that that there is a growing need for estate and trusts law practitioners outside the Toronto downtown area, including estate litigation, estate planning and estate administration. In 2009 Doroty opened her own law office in Port Credit, Mississauga. Dorothy represents clients in will challenges and guardianship applications. She assists the estate trustees with all aspects of estate administration including probate process (applications for certificate of appointment of estate trustee) and passing of trustee accounts in court. She provides counsel to individuals and businesses on real estate, corporate and many business and commercial transactions. She also assists with tax efficient and often complex individual and business estate and succession planning, creating wills and trusts to address her clients’ needs and the needs of their beneficiaries (for example: Henson Trusts for beneficiaries with disabilities). When providing her clients with legal advice, she draws on her expertise as a former financial advisor and on her business acumen. Dorothy advocates for early resolutions of legal disputes through negotiation and early mediation but will fiercely defend her client in court, if needed, in contentious litigation matters, such as Drennan v. Drennan.

Dorothy remains active in her community by participating in several community and charitable initiatives. She is a very passionate sponsor of a number of charity golf tournaments.
